The fire broke out in the 100 block of Brumbaugh Avenue on Monday, around 10:42 p.m., according to the Chambersburg fire department.
Upon arrival, crews learned from the neighbors' someone was trapped inside the home.
Fire crews initially searched for the person but were forced to evacuate because the conditions "rapidly deteriorated."
Crews attempted to re-enter the home through a bedroom window and found Gary Lee Stevens Sr. dead in his bedroom at 10:58 p.m.
The flames were under control at 11:10 p.m.
Two of the 44 personnel on the scene were hurt but treated at the scene and did not require additional care, according to fire officials.
Officials cleared the scene around 3:30 a.m.
The damage is estimated at $200,000.
Stevens enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family, those closest to him told Daily Voice.
He is survived by his wife, children, and extended family.
Funeral and memorial service details have yet to be released.
